Q&A with Lara Raworth, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust

Leveraging data to streamline Learning from Deaths reporting, increase operational efficacy and improve health patient outcomes

Q: How did you hear about  RwHealth?

Through colleagues and the Lead Medical Examiner at our Trust.

Q: How long have you been using the cors SOLUTION?

For one month.

Q: WhY WAS CORS PROCURED?

The medical examiners saw an alignment between the ME scrutinies that they were contractually required to undertake in the mortality process. As an organisation, our processes were very separate, very disjointed and quite difficult to align. The overall ambition to procure the CORS solution was to unify and align needed resources, as well as streamline processes going forward. The organisation needed one platform to report and derive information from, which CORS allows us to do easily.

Q: What has The CORS solution enabled you to do?

The CORS solution has allowed us to align all processes and access it from one place. Our future ambition is to use the CORS solution and its dashboard capabilities in our next learning from deaths group meeting which is in a couple of weeks. This should make creating ME reports more simple, as opposed to individually crafted reports.

“The CORS solution has allowed us to align all processes and access it from one place.”

Q: Before CORS, what were you using?

Clarity Tech for the SJR element and undertaking Level 1 and Level 2 reviews; but apart from that, we had no structured system.

Q: What Value has it brought to the team?

The CORS solution has allowed us to save time by providing a unified approach. From a Medial Examiner perspective, using CORS has allowed the team to increase output as they have more time to do more within their allocated session time.

Q: what immediate benefits have you seen since using cors?

The alignment of processes, the ease of reporting and high visibility of information have benefitted everyone.

“From a Medial Examiner perspective, using CORS has allowed the team to increase output as they have more time to do more within their allocated session time.”

Q: what Are the expected outcomes you’re anticipating?

At the Trust, we always talk about learning from deaths and how to optimise this. At the moment, there is very little that has come out of this. However, by using CORS, we hope to capture and pull out key themes, trends and findings to increase our overall output in this area.

Q: what Time Savings have you realised?

Time saving in reporting and interacting with critical information.

“By using CORS, we hope to capture and pull out key themes, trends and findings to increase our overall output for the ‘Learning from Deaths’ group”

KEY TAKEAWAY:

RwHealth’s CORS solution is a necessary reporting and data visualisation tool for medical examiners. The solution has allowed teams to increase output, accessibility and ownership of crucial information.
